Hand knotted
The hand knotted technique is one of the most traditional and labor-intensive methods of creating rugs. Each rug is the result of a meticulous process where highly skilled artisans tie each knot individually to the base of the rug. This process can take months, depending on the size and complexity of the design, resulting in a unique piece of art with exceptional durability.
Hand knotted rugs are distinguished by their knot density, which gives them a rich texture and superior quality that only improves with time.
Hand tufted
The hand tufted technique combines craftsmanship with efficiency to create high-quality rugs in less time. Unlike hand knotted rugs, hand tufted rugs are made using a special tool that allows artisans to insert loops of yarn into a fabric base, following the desired design.
Once the base is completed, a backing is applied to secure the yarn in place. This technique allows for greater flexibility in designs and textures, and while the process is faster than hand knotting, hand tufted rugs still maintain an exceptional level of quality and detail.
Hand loomed
The Hand loomed technique is a traditional method where rugs are crafted using a manual loom.
Hand loomed rugs tend to be less labor-intensive than hand knotted rugs, but they still offer a high-quality finish, and the process allows for a wide range of pattern and textures.
This technique is known for its durability and versatility, making it a popular choice for various types of rugs.
Our Materials: Premium Fibers
At Rugsrugs, we carefully select only the finest natural materials to craft our rugs, prioritizing both durability and elegance. We primarily use premium New Zealand wool, renowned for its softness, resilience, and luxurious texture. This wool is celebrated for its natural luster and strength, ensuring each rug is as durable as it is beautiful.
In addition to New Zealand wool, we incorporate Icelandic wool, which brings unique, naturally weather-resistant properties. Its slightly coarser texture adds a sophisticated depth to our designs, enhancing the durability and character of each piece.
For added luxury, some of our collections feature silk, providing an unparalleled softness and a subtle sheen that captures light and brings a touch of elegance to any room. We also source select fibers from other natural materials, each chosen for its distinct texture and environmental sustainability.
Our commitment to quality and responsible sourcing means that every rug not only looks stunning but also respects the environment. By choosing these materials, we’re able to offer rugs that are durable, sustainable, and crafted to elevate your space with refined, lasting beauty.
Our Dyeing Process
At Rugsrugs, each rug’s vibrant, enduring color is crafted through a meticulous dyeing process rooted in tradition and quality. We source eco-friendly dyes that are both durable and kind to the environment, ensuring that every color component nature rather than compromising it.
Our artisans begin by selecting the finest natural fibers, which are carefully prepped to absorb color evenly. Using a combination of hand-dyeing and traditional techniques, our team achieves the rich, deep hues that bring life to each design. Each batch is hand-mixed, and the dyeing is done in small, controlled quantities to ensure precise color matching and minimal waste.
Through our commitment to eco-friendly practices, we-re able to produce rugs that not only look exceptional but also contribute to a healthier planet.
